The mountain peaks are reflected in the clear waters of the lake, creating a spectacularly beautiful sight. Moreover, the lake has the warmest water among Tyrol’s lakes. Despite its altitude of 915 meters above sea level, it can reach temperatures of up to 25°C. In its center, the lake reaches a depth of 25 meters.
This is what the Pastoral Landscapes of Lake Piburg look like
You can easily spend a whole day around Lake Piburg. There are various hiking trails, some of which are accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, and some are more challenging among the mountain slopes. If you are lucky enough to arrive at the lake on a warm and sunny day, you can go in and swim undisturbed. You can also take a boat trip along the lake or try fishing, although you need a special permit from the municipality of the village of Ötz.
It is advisable to approach the lake from its southern part, where there are more restaurants and also the boat rental place. It’s nice to sit in one of the restaurants near the lake and taste some fresh lake fish.
One of the recommended restaurants is called Gasthof am Piburger See.
You can reach Lake Piburg via scenic trails from the villages of Ötz, Sautens, Habichen, and Piburg. In winter, the area offers plenty to do, including 20 kilometers of hiking trails, ice skating on the lake, and an exciting alpine slide.
