There are four interesting museums in the new Hofburg Palace Wing. Some of them belong to the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum) located across the street at Maria-Theresien-Platz. One of these four museums is the Armoury of the Habsburgs – the Imperial Armoury, which is a comprehensive museum displaying ancient armor and weaponry.
The Imperial Armoury presents one of the largest and most unique weapon collections in the world, featuring a wide variety of exquisitely decorated armor and weapons that belonged to the emperors and dukes of the House of Habsburg.
The museum’s display includes items of rare beauty, such as the gilded sword of Maximilian II from the 16th century or the decorated armor of King Ferdinand of Aragon from the late 15th century.
