Kesselfall Waterfall – General Information
The Kesselfall waterfall trail (Kesselfallklamm) is located not far from the city of Graz and is considered the “little brother” and lesser-known version of the famous Bärenschützklamm (Bear Gorge) trail.
The hiking trail to the Kesselfall waterfall passes through a small natural canyon where the Rötschbach stream flows. The regulated trail to the waterfall was opened as early as the beginning of the 20th century.
This is a relatively simple hiking trail inside the natural canyon, which is about 40 meters deep. The hike includes a moderate ascent along the canyon up to the viewpoint over the waterfall.
Along the trail, there are several other small waterfalls and pools of water. The trail itself is quite safe with wooden bridges, ladders, and stairs, and it is specially adapted for families with children.
The walk along the canyon begins near the Sandwirt Inn, south of the village of Semriach. From the ticket booth, you cross a bridge and walk along trail number 740, which runs parallel to the Rötschbach stream. After a short walk, you reach the forest, and there the trail towards the waterfall begins, which includes climbing on wooden bridges and stairs.
After the ascent, continue along trail number 740B, which leads up the hill towards the Stone Gate (Steinertor). From there, the descent begins through the forest and back to the starting point – near the Sandwirt Inn.
At the end of the hike, you can sit and relax at the inn and enjoy a hot and tasty Austrian meal.
