The Palfau area in the heart of the Salza Valley is a charming natural area that offers a variety of nature trails and fun activities for the whole family, especially for adrenaline lovers. We have gathered here the essential information on the recommended activities in the Palfau vicinity.
Hiking in the Wasserlochklamm Gorge
The natural gorge “Water Hole” (Wasserlochklamm) is located east of Palfau. It is a spectacular nature trail that includes well-maintained wooden bridges attached to the large rock walls. In the heart of the gorge, there is a suspension bridge that was built after the previous bridge was destroyed in a flood.
Along the trail, you will walk between the large rock walls right next to the Salza River and see 5 impressive waterfalls.
The trail is mostly uphill. At the top of the gorge, you will see the Schleierfall waterfall, which falls powerfully from a height of 67 meters. You can also be impressed by the special spring that flows from within a cave and enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful views of the Salza Valley from the observation point called Salza Arena.

- Ascent duration: One and a half hours to the spring in the cave.
- Recommended gear: Good, closed-toe hiking shoes.
- Please note: The trail is also suitable for young children (recommended from age 5), but it is not possible to do it with strollers.
