The Ötztal Glacier Road (Ötztaler Gletscherstraße) was paved in 1972 at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level and is now considered the second-highest paved road in Europe. Its total length is 16 kilometers. The section of the road between the glaciers passes through a long tunnel (called the Rosi Mittermaier Tunnel) – the highest road tunnel in Europe.

If you are visiting in the winter season for skiing and have a ski pass, you can drive on this road for free towards the ski resorts in the glacier area.
In the summer, the toll for the road is: a private car with up to 4 people costs €19. A motorcycle costs €6 / €10 if there are two passengers.
