The Story of Clam Castle
The ancient Clam Castle was established in 1149 by Duke Otto von Machland, who was then the ruler of the entire Upper Austria region. After his death, the castle passed several times between different noble families but was preserved in its original form. In the 15th century, the castle passed into the hands of the noble Clam family.
During the Thirty Years’ War, the family maintained a small army to defend the castle. Although the castle was never conquered, the many wars that took place in the area left it in a very dilapidated state.
After the war subsided, the castle underwent extensive renovation, and new wings were added, as well as a church and stables. During the World Wars, the castle remained unscathed, and to this day, the members of the Clam family are its owners.
On the castle grounds, there is a large concert stage where music performances with thousands of participants are held during the summer months.
