The Story of Liechtenstein Castle
Liechtenstein Castle was built during the 12th century and was owned by the Liechtenstein family (the same noble house that rules the country of Liechtenstein) for several hundred years. During the Turkish invasion of the region, the castle fell to the invaders and was destroyed. The ruined castle remained abandoned for centuries until, in 1884, renovations began to restore it to its former glory.

Today, the castle serves as a museum and an impressive exhibition space showcasing the lives of nobles in the Middle Ages, primarily presenting the history of the famous House of Liechtenstein. Guided tours of the castle began as early as the 19th century, so there is a long-standing tradition of guiding visitors through the castle’s impressive rooms.
