The reserve is located not far from the city of Wiener Neustadt, which was built with the ransom money of the English King Richard the Lionheart after he was imprisoned in Dürnstein Castle in the Wachau Valley.
The main attractions of Hohe Wand Nature Reserve
Throughout the Hohe Wand nature reserve, there are many attractions suitable for everyone. Families, couples, and individuals can find something wonderful to do in the reserve. You can try rope climbing, paragliding, or simply enjoy the wonderful views.
The Skywalk Observation Deck and the Trail on the Mountainside – A Must-See!
On the side of the high mountain in the reserve, there is a well-maintained trail with high railings, a flat path, and stairs. You can walk leisurely and enjoy the view and the fresh air. Additionally, there is a special observation deck that juts out 8 meters from the cliff top (in the same style as the 5 Fingers viewing platform at Dachstein mountain). At the foot of the observation deck, a wide green valley unfolds. The view from this spot is breathtaking and stunningly beautiful!

Unicorn Cave (Einhorn-Tropfsteinhöhle)
This stalactite cave is located at the foot of the reserve’s main mountain. It can be reached within a 20-minute walk from the village of Dreistetten. The cave was discovered in 1927 and opened to visitors in 1930. You can join a guided tour through the cave from April to September on Sundays and holidays. The tour inside the 80-meter-long cave takes 20 minutes. Besides stalactites up to a meter high, archaeological findings from the Bronze Age were also discovered in the cave. According to the findings, humans lived in this cave even in this ancient period.
- Tour Cost: €4.50 for an adult and €3 for a child.
- Near the cave, there is a small inn called Zitherwirt with hot meals and a large garden for beautiful sunny days.

Playground, Petting Zoo, and Animal Corner
In the heart of the reserve, there is a children’s playground with slides and fun equipment. There is also a petting zoo with rabbits, goats, and sheep. As part of the complex, there is also an observation tower offering a magnificent panoramic view.
The Reserve’s Museum
A small museum that opened in 1987 with findings from the area and its history. The museum has several interesting exhibits about the reserve: the 180 caves of the reserve, how the local residents made a living in the last 100 years, the ancient Roman settlement in the area, the nature in the reserve, and more.

The Hohe Wand Nature Park is open every day! Please be aware that the mountain road has a gradient of up to 14%. If there is snow on the road, snow chains may be required on some days. Please follow the weather forecast in advance.

How to get there?
The best way to reach the reserve is by car. Public transportation is not convenient for getting to the reserve. You can drive up to the mountain’s summit and even park near the spectacular observation deck.
