Aggstein Castle Ruins – General Information
Aggstein Castle was built in the 12th century on a steep hill about 300 meters above the banks of the Danube in the Wachau Valley. This large, ancient castle has a total length of 150 meters. Over the years, the castle withstood attacks and sieges, resulting in its partial destruction. Today, the castle serves as a museum and offers a variety of guided tours (with a live guide or an audio guide). There are also engaging, experiential guided tours for children, complete with explanations about the castle and the battles that took place there.
In addition, the castle hosts a variety of music events, as well as arts and crafts markets.
