Hochmoor Schrems Nature Reserve | A Lovely Nature Area

The marshlands on the border of Austria and the Czech Republic are a great place for a fun and educational outing in nature. Throughout the reserve, you can see interesting animals and learn about the natural world in the heart of the Austrian wetlands. At the visitor center, called UnterWasserReich, you can see an interesting interactive exhibition about life in the reserve. The exhibition includes aquariums with fish from the marshes and water ponds in the area, as well as microscopes for viewing the smallest animals found in the reserve. The nature reserve is open all year round.

Within the Hochmoor Schrems Nature Reserve, there are several attractions for the whole family. You can visit the otter pool and watch them being fed, or go up the observation tower and look at the magnificent view from it. In addition, there is a playground area for children.

A small café and a shop with products from the region also operate on-site.

Visitor Center Opening Times:

End of March to the end of October – every day from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Otter Feeding Times:

Every day at 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 4:00 PM.

Microscopic Animal Show:

Every day from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

If you are visiting the nature reserve, you can combine it with a fun outing at the water and relaxation world called Sole-Felsen-Bad. The place is a 15-minute drive from the nature reserve.
