The Village of Dürrnberg
The history of the village is particularly tied to salt. For centuries, the small village was the center of salt mining in Central Europe. Salt mining only ended in 1989. Today, the ancient salt mines located on its territory are a major attraction for travelers from all over the world. If you plan to visit the Hallein Salt Mine, you can combine it with several fun attractions on the summit of the mountain overlooking the village. At the foot of the mountain, there is a cable car that will take you to the top.
In addition, the small village also serves as accommodation for travelers in winter and summer and has excellent hotels and guest houses. You can see the various accommodation options in Dürrnberg on the comprehensive list on Booking.com.
The Keltenblitz Mountain Coaster (Sommerrodelbahn Keltenblitz)
The mountain coaster at the top of the Zinkenkogel mountain is one of the best in the area and undoubtedly the longest among the various slides in the Salzburgerland region. The descent route is 2.2 kilometers long and includes twists, sharp turns, jumps, and waves.
You can comfortably ascend to the top of the mountain using the open chairlift that also operates in the summer, or hike to the top on the marked trail. Even if you don’t plan to slide down, you can enjoy the wonderful view from the summit and see the Salzach Valley and the old town of Hallein.
At the top of the mountain, there is a restaurant called Zinkenstüberl where you can sit and have a cake with a warm coffee. For children, there is a small petting zoo and also a playground.
After a short rest, you can begin the thrilling descent on the mountain coaster. The ride is long and fun, and the brave can even reach speeds of 40 km/h. At the end of the ride, you can buy a souvenir photo.
