Tauern Residence Apartment Hotel | Ideal Accomodation in Salzburg

The town of Radstadt is one of the most popular bases for accommodation in Salzburgerland thanks to its ideal location in the heart of the mountains and close to major regional attractions. Unlike neighboring Flachau, which can feel very touristy and packed with accommodations, Radstadt retains a authentic rural charm with a lovely historic center, a handful of shops and cafés, and breathtaking alpine views. While there are guesthouses, hotels, and apartments around town, it never feels overcrowded.

On the outskirts of Radstadt, right next to the regional golf course, sits a modern and highly practical apartment hotel operated by the Austrian company Alps Resorts. The company manages around 44 holiday resorts across Austria and southern Germany and is considered one of the region’s leading hospitality providers. Alps Resorts properties are particularly known for their prime locations—in Salzburgerland alone, they operate seven holiday apartment complexes right in the heart of the main sightseeing areas.

Tauern Residence enjoys an equally fantastic location: just a 7-minute drive from the center of Radstadt and within an hour’s drive of dozens of top attractions in Salzburgerland and the Lake District (Salzkammergut—a full list of recommended attractions and driving times appears at the end of this article). Set in a lush, peaceful area, the resort lets you unwind on your balcony or by the pool at the end of a busy day of sightseeing and enjoy the quiet and crisp mountain air.

We stayed at this apartment hotel during a summer trip to Salzburgerland—read on for all the practical details and our firsthand review at the end of the article.

What Does Tauern Residence Offer?

The apartment complex is medium-sized and surrounded by manicured green lawns, giving it a relaxed countryside feel. If you are expecting a traditional rustic Austrian wooden chalet, note that this property has a sleek, modern architectural style. Both outdoor surface parking and a large covered underground garage (on level -1) are available on-site.

The apartments are newly renovated, modern, and well-equipped. Options range from cozy 1-bedroom apartments with a living room to spacious 2- and 3-bedroom units. With configurations accommodating anywhere from 2 to 8 guests, the property is ideal for families or groups of friends traveling together.

Some apartments feature a large private balcony, while ground-floor units offer direct access to the lawns and outdoor pool. Every apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen with all essential cookware and tableware. Note that some units come with a microwave rather than a full baking oven (if you specifically need an oven, be sure to check the exact apartment specifications before booking). Multiple elevators serve the upper floors, so you won’t have to carry heavy luggage up the stairs.

At the center of the complex is a heated outdoor pool perfect for swimming and relaxing on warm summer days. There is also a grassy play area for children featuring soccer goals, a trampoline, and playground equipment. On the top floor, guests have free access to a small fitness room (with basic equipment) and a wellness area with 3 saunas. If you need extra entertainment for the kids, you can borrow board games or coloring books at the reception desk.

On the underground parking level, there is a laundry room with one washing machine and one dryer. Use of the machines requires a separate fee (€3 per wash), payable directly at the coin/payment machine next to the washer—no need to coordinate with reception.

What to Know Before Booking Tauern Residence Radstadt

Unlike standard hotels or typical Airbnb rentals, there are a few important details to keep in mind when staying at an Austrian apartment resort:

  1. Separate Fee for Bed Linen & Towels: There is a mandatory per-person fee for bed linen and towels (you do not need to bring your own from home). This fee is clearly displayed in the price breakdown during booking.
  2. No Daily Housekeeping: Do not expect daily towel changes or bed-making during your stay, as daily maid service is not included. However, if you need fresh towels, the friendly staff at reception will gladly provide them.
  3. Kitchen Essentials: While the kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, basic cooking consumables like oil, salt, and spices are not provided. You will need to buy these yourself—thankfully, there is a large Hofer supermarket just a 5-minute drive away.
  4. Self-Catering (No Breakfast Buffet): Stays do not include breakfast. You can arrange for fresh bread rolls (Brötchenservice) to be delivered to your door each morning, and prepare the rest of your breakfast in your kitchen.
  5. Staffed Reception Desk: The resort has a reception desk staffed throughout the day. The team is warm, welcoming, and very family-friendly! They are happy to help with local tips, route planning, and booking attraction tickets if needed.

Exclusive 10% Reader Discount

As an exclusive perk for Travel in Austria readers, in partnership with Alps Resorts, you can enjoy a 10% discount on the accommodation rate (excluding final cleaning and linen fees) at Tauern Residence and all other Alps Resorts properties!

When booking directly on the official Alps Resorts website, simply enter the promo code AU10 in the Promo Code field on the final checkout page before payment. (Note: Discounts cannot be combined—if a seasonal promotion already applies to your chosen apartment, the higher discount will automatically be applied).

Direct prices on the official website are generally lower than on third-party platforms like Booking.com or Expedia. Of course, you can—and should—compare prices and read guest reviews of Tauern Residence on Booking.com.

What Else Is Included in Your Stay?

In addition to free use of the swimming pool, outdoor play area, gym, and sauna complex, guests receive the regional Salzburger Sportwelt Card free of charge. While the card does not include free entry to major attractions, it does grant a 21% discount on admission to the nearby Therme Amadé water park and thermal spa (just a 10-minute drive away). You can purchase discounted Therme Amadé tickets directly at the resort reception desk.

Our Personal Review of Tauern Residence

We stayed at Tauern Residence for several nights during the summer. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was warm and genuine, with a relaxed and friendly reception team. Our apartment was wonderfully quiet and equipped with everything we needed, and the kitchenware was more than sufficient for preparing meals.

While the bed frame itself wasn’t overly luxurious, the mattress was comfortable and we slept very well. Leaving the window open at night brought in a refreshing mountain breeze. One practical tip: Because the resort is surrounded by greenery and meadows, there can be mosquitoes in summer and the windows do not have insect screens—we recommend bringing plug-in mosquito repellent or only opening the windows at night after turning off the lights.

In our opinion, the location was the winning factor—and not just because of the gorgeous mountain views in every direction. Every day we set out from morning until evening and reached all our planned attractions quickly and effortlessly. Getting onto the main highway takes just two minutes, putting almost all of Salzburgerland’s highlights within an hour’s drive.

Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing stay that allowed us to pack in a fantastic itinerary.

Insider Tip: We highly recommend visiting Wildpark Untertauern, located just an 8- to 10-minute drive from the resort. Admission is free, and you can feed and pet the animals—it is a charming spot for adults and children alike.
