In the heart of the city of Salzburg stands an ancient monastery, and next to it, a special cemetery. The ancient monastery was established as early as the 7th century and was one of the most important Christian centers of the city. This monastery is the oldest among the monasteries in German-speaking countries. Next to the monastery is the ancient cemetery, right at the foot of a prominent hill. This cemetery is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the world. In its center is an ancient chapel and a variety of graves of important and famous people from previous centuries. Within the high stone wall at the back of the cemetery, there are ancient and extraordinary catacombs. The cemetery was used for one of the scenes from the famous movie “The Sound of Music.”
