Searching for accommodation can take time and requires perseverance and patience. The Tyrol region is quite large, but if you settle in a central location not far from the highways, you can quickly get to all the popular attractions and save valuable travel time.
There are two common types of trips: “star” trips (base camp) or “wandering” trips. In a “star” trip, you choose one place to stay and take day trips to various parts of the region from there. A “wandering” trip means you move to a new accommodation almost every day. The type of trip depends on you and your family composition. A family with children might prefer a “star” trip with one central place to stay, while a couple might choose to move from place to place throughout their journey. Of course, there’s no black and white here, and you’ll have to decide what suits you best. Some people travel very spontaneously and don’t book accommodation in advance (this is definitely possible, but it depends on the season and how particular you are).
As in any popular tourist area, good accommodations in Tyrol are “snapped up” quickly. If you’ve found a perfect place to stay, it’s highly recommended to book it well in advance. If you’ve found a place you like but are unsure about certain details, it’s a good idea to send an email (or a message on Facebook if they have an active page), call the place directly, or get information from other travelers through our Facebook group. After a short inquiry, you’ll know if it’s the right choice for you.
Tip: If you’re staying in accommodation in Tyrol located in central areas of the region, such as the Ötztal valley, you might receive discount cards for local attractions. Most hosts recognized by the local tourism office provide these cards. With these cards, you can enjoy free entry to attractions or a discount on admission tickets (depending on the attraction).
Accommodation in Tyrol – Which Towns and Villages to Stay In?
The popular places where many hotels and guesthouses are concentrated include:
- Seefeld
- Mösern
- Mayrhofen
- Innsbruck – the capital of Tyrol
- Uderns – Zillertal valley
- Umhausen – Ötztal valley
You can see on the map that these places are scattered throughout the region. Each place, of course, has its own charm. You can stay in the heart of the sprawling valleys and enjoy the tranquility, scenery, and activities offered in the valley. Alternatively, you can stay in towns close to the highways, which will allow for easy movement to all parts of the region. The choice of accommodation definitely depends on the nature of the trip you want to have. A trip with many places to visit each day will require accommodation in a location that allows easy access to the highway. For a relaxed and easy-going trip, staying in the heart of Tyrol’s valleys will be an exceptional and especially calming experience.
Types of Accommodation in the Tyrol Region
Throughout the Tyrol region, you’ll find plenty of luxurious accommodation options, whether in the heart of towns, in villages, or amidst nature. You can choose between hotels, B&B style guesthouses, holiday apartments, vacation rentals, and even holiday farms.
In fact, staying on farms is very popular among travelers in Austria. Farms sometimes have animals and are surrounded by wonderful nature. Staying on a farm is undoubtedly a wonderful, educational, and very interesting experience for both couples and families.
