The small Schiederweiher lake is located in the area of the village of Hinterstoder in the Stoder Valley in Upper Austria. Surrounding the lake are two high and impressive mountains: the Spitzmauer (2,446 meters above sea level) and the Großer Priel (2,515 meters above sea level).
What makes the Schiederweiher lake so special is the breathtaking view from its crystal-clear, turquoise water. Adding to the beauty are the dark forests and green meadows that lie directly along the shores of the Schiederweiher.
A big achievement for a small lake: On Austria’s National Day in 2018, Schiederweiher lake was voted the most beautiful place in the whole country during the ORF2 live show “9 Places – 9 Treasures.”
This is what Schiederweiher lake and its surroundings look like
Around the lake, there are several marked and well-maintained hiking trails suitable for families. The main trail starts from the parking lot next to the village. The path goes through the forest up the hill. There are benches along the way, so you can stop and rest. After the short ascent, a descent towards the small lake begins. The paved path allows you to walk comfortably, even with strollers.
When you reach the small lake, you can marvel at the spectacular view and the clear water. Swimming is not allowed here, but you can of course sit on the lake shore and enjoy a nice picnic or just take amazing photos.
You can make the return journey the same way.
The total duration of the trail is between one and a half to two hours.
