In November and December, the city of Vienna becomes most enchanting. The Christmas period in Vienna is perhaps the most beautiful time to visit the city, which is decorated and lit up in a multitude of colors and shapes. Usually, about 6 weeks before Christmas, the colorful Christmas markets begin to operate, and the city changes its face, filling with a charming holiday atmosphere. Even after Christmas, some markets continue to operate until January 6th as New Year’s markets.

Since Vienna is one of the most popular destinations in Europe for those who want to experience the Christmas atmosphere, hotel prices rise quickly, and occupancy in the city is almost completely full. Anyone who wants to visit Vienna during this period must plan far enough in advance to book a room in the good hotels that are easily accessible to the city center and the main markets.

If you have decided that you want to come to Vienna in November or December to experience the Christmas atmosphere, you should not delay and book a hotel as soon as possible. Many people book hotels for Christmas as early as June or July, so you also need to be quick to find good prices for the quality hotels the city has to offer.

To make your search among the thousands of accommodations in Vienna easier, we have compiled a list of the most recommended hotels in Vienna for the Christmas season. Additional Tips for Finding a Hotel + Recommended Hotels by District

Where to Book a Hotel for Christmas in Vienna?

Vienna is divided into 23 districts, with the city center in the 1st district and the central districts surrounding it. You can delve into the map of the districts and the city’s layout in the comprehensive article we have prepared about the city of Vienna. The Christmas markets are scattered throughout the city, but there are several markets that are considered the most popular and beautiful. The main market is located in the City Hall square (Rathausplatz), and most of the other beautiful markets are in the first district or in the area of the Ringstrasse that surrounds the city center.

Many travelers insist on finding a hotel right next to the City Hall since the main market is there. Because of this, hotel prices near the City Hall are very high, and the chance of finding a vacant room is relatively low. In fact, there is no need to stay close to the City Hall. Not only are there many markets throughout the city, but Vienna’s public transport is also excellent, whether in winter or summer.

As long as you stay in a hotel near a subway station (U-Bahn), you can reach all the important markets of the city with relative ease. For those who want to save a little on accommodation costs, it is advisable to take a hotel further away from the City Hall and get there by subway or tram.

We have divided the list of recommended hotels in Vienna for Christmas according to the different districts of the city and their proximity to the Christmas markets. You can find the comprehensive lists for hotels near the Christmas markets in the separate article we have prepared with tips for choosing a hotel in Vienna near the Christmas markets.

These lists of additional hotels appear directly on Booking.com according to filters we have selected to help you quickly find a good hotel at a reasonable price during this popular time of year.
