The Story of Landskron Castle
The ancient castle was built as early as the 14th century on a steep hill 658 meters above sea level. The castle belonged to Duke Albert II of the House of Habsburg, who was also the Duke of Carinthia in the early 14th century. At the time, the castle became a fortified stronghold and a key point in guarding the entire region. Later, the castle passed to various noble families until it was sold completely to Christoph Khevenhüller (who was also the owner of the beautiful Hochosterwitz Castle). After being sold, the castle underwent extensive renovation, and parts of it were built in the impressive Renaissance style.
In the 17th century, the Khevenhüller family was dispossessed of their ownership of the castle by Emperor Ferdinand II. Over the following years, the castle continued to pass between noble families who did not maintain it, leaving it abandoned and neglected. In 1812, lightning struck the castle, sparking a fire that turned it into a ruin.
Today, the castle serves as a breeding place for birds of prey and as a beautiful spot for lunch at the local restaurant that operates on its grounds.

The Bird of Prey Show at the Landskron Castle Complex
In the center of the castle complex, there is a large lawn where flight shows of rare birds of prey (Adler Arena) take place. In the 40-minute show, you can see several types of impressive birds such as eagles, falcons, and owls. The bird trainer will explain his work and the art of training these impressive animals. During the show, you can feel the power of these animals and the rush of wind on your neck as they dive swiftly at the trainer’s request.
After the special show, you can sit down for a relaxed lunch at the restaurant that operates within the castle complex.
