The Salzburg Open-Air Museum displays about 100 authentic and historic buildings that have been moved from various villages throughout the region to the museum grounds. The historic buildings were taken from the regions of Flachgau, Tennengau, Pongau, Lungau, and Pinzgau. In each area of the museum grounds, buildings from one of the mentioned places are concentrated, so you can understand the structure of the ancient villages.
These buildings present in a tangible and beautiful way the world of the villagers since the Middle Ages. You can learn about life in the village, the crafts of the villagers, and hear interesting stories about their world.
The museum actually presents the history of the last 600 years from all over Salzburgerland. It is an interesting experience for adults and children alike.
Throughout the museum, there are also many attractions, especially for children, so there’s no need to worry, they won’t be bored for even a moment.
The various attractions include:
- An old steam train: An experiential ride on an old train through the museum’s paths. A comfortable and fun way to see the old houses along the way.
