The Schafberg mountain rises to a height of 1,780 meters above sea level and is located at the northern end of Lake Wolfgang. At the top of the mountain, there is a hotel and a viewpoint at an altitude of 1732 meters, offering a view of the entire region. On a clear day, you can see up to 7 different lakes from this peak.
Since 1893, a railway line has been operating, connecting the town of St. Wolfgang with the Schafberg summit. The railway line is called Schafbergbahn in German. The scenic ride on the historic train is only possible during the summer months. The train’s route from the town to the summit is about 6 kilometers long. Experienced hikers can make the journey to the summit on foot. The trail is of medium-to-hard difficulty, takes about 4 hours, and is 13 kilometers long from the town to the summit.
