Lake Attersee stretches for 20 kilometers and is about 4 kilometers wide. The main river that flows into the lake is called the Seeache, which starts from Lake Mondsee.
To the southwest of the lake is the Schafberg mountain, which rises to a height of about 1,800 meters above sea level. This mountain separates Lake Attersee from Lake Mondsee. To the southeast of the lake is the Höllengebirge (Hell’s Mountains) range, whose peaks are about 1,900 meters above sea level.

The large lake attracts many surfers due to the constant wind that blows there. The lake also serves as an important source for fishing and transporting goods. You can swim in the lake and sail on it in electric boats or large tour boats. Keep in mind that due to its size and the fact that the Seeache river flows into it, the lake’s water is very cold – even on the hottest summer days.
In the middle of the lake, near the village of Litzlberg, there is a small island on which stands an old manor house (Litzlburg). This is an old house from the end of the 19th century. It is said that the famous Gustav Klimt used to visit this estate during the summer months. The manor house and the island are private property, so it is not possible to visit them.
Around the lake, there are long, well-maintained roads (numbers 151, 152) that allow for easy access to all parts of the lake.
