Grafenegg Castle (Schloss Grafenegg) is located not far from the Wachau Valley and Vienna. It is a spectacular 700-year-old castle that serves as a rare and wonderfully preserved example of an extraordinary combination of ancient architectural styles: Gothic, Baroque, Biedermeier, and Neo-Gothic. Surrounding the castle are beautiful, well-kept English-style gardens, some of which were established and designed as early as the 17th century. Its beauty has made the castle one of the symbols of Lower Austria as a whole.
Grafenegg Castle still belongs to the noble Metternich-Sándor family today. The family’s patriarch was the one who initiated the idea of turning the castle into a place of culture and art, and today it hosts international festivals and concerts with many participants. For this purpose, a huge, futuristic-style event stage with seating for about 2,000 people was built in the castle garden.

Essential Information for Visiting Grafenegg Castle
Opening Times:
The castle grounds and gardens are open throughout the year, except on days when concerts or festivals are held. The opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The castle itself is open from the end of June to the beginning of September.
Guided Tours:
Usually on weekends at 2:00 PM. Can be arranged in advance.

- Adult: €7 (€10 including a guided tour, €12 including a concert, €15 including a guided tour and a concert)

How to Get There from Vienna?
The recommended way to get to the castle from Vienna is by car (by train, you will have to change 3 times and travel for at least two hours each way). The drive takes about 50 minutes from Vienna’s city center.

Alternatively, you can drive to the Kamptal valley and enjoy the views of the Kamp River, the many vineyards in its surroundings, and the rich white wine produce offered at the small wineries scattered along it.
