Luxury Bars in Vienna | Top Recommendations by Locals

Vienna is a charming city with a special allure and unique style. A stroll through the streets of the Old Town and the various palaces exudes an atmosphere of nobility and luxury. If you love going out (and especially professional cocktails) and want to experience the luxury of Vienna, you'll need to visit one of the city's upscale bars. These places are a cut above the typical Viennese bar, where all the city's movers and shakers (and soon you too!) spend their time.

Many travelers go to well-known bars in the city like the bar on the top floor of the Sofitel hotel, the bar at the 25hours hotel, or the Sky-Bar. There’s no doubt these are very nice places, but in this article, you’ll find recommendations for other excellent bars that even some locals don’t know about.

Here are the bars that will be detailed further below.

  1. The Bank Bar and Brasserie
  2. Blaue Bar
  3. Krypt
  4. Onyx Bar
  5. The Birdyard
  6. Kleinod die Bar
  7. Tür 7

Further details on Vienna’s Luxury Bars

1. The Bank Bar and Brasserie

Ever thought about a cocktail party with your banker? Probably not… but in Vienna, anything is possible!

The ancient building where the bar is located was once a large and important bank of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Afterward, it served as the main branch of Bank Austria. In 2014, the building was converted into the Park Hyatt Hotel. Despite the extensive renovation, all the original features of the place were preserved, and today you can enjoy Austrian grandeur while leisurely sipping one of the exquisite cocktails.

Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the occasion and be prepared for inflated prices. After all, this is one of the city’s most luxurious bars.

2. Blaue Bar – The Blue Bar

Just the location of this bar makes it extremely luxurious. This is the bar located inside Vienna’s famous Sacher Hotel. The design of the place is most impressive; the bar’s walls are blue and beautifully decorated, and the crystal chandeliers look as if they were taken from the rooms of Schönbrunn Palace. As you sit in the velvet armchairs, you’ll better understand what it felt like to be part of the Austrian aristocracy.

3. Krypt – The Crypt

The experience here begins right from the entrance, as you descend the grand staircase towards the bar’s hall. The ancient stone walls, the paintings, and the marble and dark wood ornaments will make you feel the classic Viennese atmosphere. This bar offers a very wide variety of cocktails. The drinks are expensive but very tasty and unique.

4. Onyx Bar

On the 6th floor of the famous Haas House, where the Do&Co hotel is located, you’ll also find this wonderful bar. From the large bar window, you can overlook St. Stephen’s Square and the magnificent cathedral at its center. This is one of the places in the city where you can meet politicians, actors, and other Austrian celebrities you’ve probably never heard of. The bar offers many cocktails and alcoholic beverages, as well as light meals and desserts.

Even though the style of the place is quite homely and not overly styled, the dress code is strict, and you should arrive dressed respectfully.

5. The Birdyard

The design of this place is definitely something your Instagram followers (or work friends) don’t see every day. The colorful wall paintings are the symbol of the place. The paintings are bold, exotic, and some even glow in the dark. The venue is divided into two floors – the upper floor has a luxurious restaurant, and the bar is on the ground floor.

The cocktail list is diverse, and there are many cocktails that are a unique creation of this place.

6. Kleinod die Bar

This bar is more intimate, with a warm and elegant atmosphere. It’s located in a very old building (over 850 years old) in the heart of the city. It’s a relatively new bar, but it has already made an excellent name for itself among Austrian nightlife enthusiasts. If your style includes bartenders in suits and masterful cocktails, this is the place for you.

7. Tür 7 – The Seventh Door Bar

Vienna’s underground bar is the city champion when it comes to cocktails (and it’s not just because we think so!). The bartenders there continue to win various awards in the local cocktail scene every year.

The bar itself is small and intimate, and they usually don’t let in large groups. Also, the staff doesn’t really want people taking photos inside the bar (so everyone can enjoy the surprise effect).

The drinks served here are exceptional, and it’s not surprising that this bar attracts alcohol enthusiasts from all over the world.

To respect the venue’s policy, we haven’t added a picture here. You’ll have to discover it yourself!
