In this article, you can read about the nature park for children called Ghost Mountain (Geisterberg). This park is located on the summit of Geisterberg mountain, near the town of St. Johann im Pongau.
A Great Summer Attraction – Ghost Mountain
On the mountain peak near St. Johann, the Geisterberg summit, there is an experiential park for the whole family that deals with ghosts and spirits (in German: Geisterberg Alpendorf). The park is open during the summer months and at the beginning of autumn, and it can be easily reached by cable car.
In fact, the experience begins at the lower cable car station where there is a large playground for children with swings, small boats, trampolines, golf, and go-karting.
The nature park at the top of the mountain (at an altitude of 1,800 meters) includes about 40 play stations and activities for children.
The park has about 17 kilometers of experiential hiking trails divided according to the four elements of nature: earth, fire, water, and air. In each part of the park, there are a variety of activities along the different trails, surrounded by magical and interesting creatures. Children can enjoy swings, a haunted castle, bird nests, a climbing dragon, a ghost tower, water games, a water lake, and more.
Throughout the park, you can stop and enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful mountain scenery.
How to get to Ghost Mountain?
After parking at the foot of the mountain, you need to take the cable car up the mountain to a place called St. Johann Alpendorf. The cable car ride takes about 15 minutes. After getting off the cable car, you need to walk to the Geisterberg train station. Every half hour, the train departs from the station and reaches the nature park in 15 minutes (the train stops at one intermediate station at the hikers’ hut). The train runs every half hour from 9:15 AM to 4:30 PM. If you don’t want to take the train, you can walk the marked trail for about 45 minutes to the nature park.
What clothing is recommended to bring?
The park is located at a high altitude on the mountain peak, and the various stations are outdoors. It is worth considering that the weather at the summit can be cool even in the hot summer months. It is advisable to come prepared for cold winds and bring a hoodie or a light wind and rain jacket. In addition, you should have good hiking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
