If it weren’t for the great shopping opportunities in this district, like the Naschmarkt and the Mariahilfer Strasse shopping street, you probably wouldn’t come here at all, except maybe by chance. The district is located southwest of the old city center, and a small part of it borders the first district (the Old City). The more remote areas of this district are considered less pleasant, with many immigrants.
Recommended Attractions in the Sixth District
1. Naschmarkt
The Naschmarkt is the largest and most touristy market in Vienna. Along one kilometer, there are about 158 restaurants and stalls selling fruits, vegetables, food, drinks, and clothes. You can find special and fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, sweets, souvenirs, and also some stalls with traditional Austrian food alongside a culinary abundance from all over the world. On Saturdays, a large flea market is held next to the Naschmarkt, where second-hand goods and antiques are sold. The flea market is a place with an interesting atmosphere and also a good opportunity to buy an original souvenir from your visit to Vienna. Read more comprehensive information about the market in our detailed article.

2. Mariahilferstrasse Shopping Street
Mariahilferstrasse is considered the most popular shopping street in Vienna (for those who don’t have extra money to spend in the luxury shops of the first district). The street was renovated a few years ago, and a large part of it has become a beautiful and tidy pedestrian zone. It is actually a pedestrian street with shops, restaurants, cafes, and a meeting place for young and old alike on both sides. On Mariahilferstrasse, there is a wide variety of fashion chains, shoe stores, sports shops, electronics, home goods, and leading brands. The prices are slightly cheaper than in some other countries, but only slightly. If you are interested in more information about shopping in Vienna, you can read everything you need to know in our detailed article.
In the middle of the street, not far from the Neubaugasse underground station, there is a beautiful and ancient church called the Mariahilf Church. You can see pictures of the church and read more information in our related article about it.

3. House of the Sea (Haus des Meeres)
Another excellent attraction for children (and adults) is the House of the Sea in Vienna. The complex, which was formerly a bunker that served the Nazis, is now used as a marine nature museum. The complex has many aquariums with fish from all over the world. There is an aquarium with sharks and also a crocodile park. In addition, there is a tropical area with special animals that are within touching distance. You can read more information about the attraction in our detailed article on the House of the Sea.
