Bad Kleinkirchheim | The Largest Spa in Carinthia

South of the spectacular Nockberge Biosphere Reserve lies a small and historic town called Bad Kleinkirchheim. The ancient town became particularly famous for its hot springs, and since the 17th century, people have been coming from all over the region to enjoy the wonderful mineral waters. The town is, of course, home to the largest mineral water pool complex in the state of Carinthia, as well as a very impressive Roman spa.

The small town is located at an altitude of 1,090 meters above sea level, and to its north are the high mountain ranges of the Alps. To the west of the town is the beautiful Lake Millstätter See, as well as the town of Feld am See, which has the Alpine Wildlife Park. The wonderful combination of green nature, high peaks, and hot springs makes the Bad Kleinkirchheim area an ideal place for a relaxing and pleasant trip. If you would like to stay in this area, you can find a variety of recommended hotels in the consolidated list on Booking.com.

The Spa Complexes in Bad Kleinkirchheim

In the small town, there are two complexes for relaxation and fun with a pampering spa. The two complexes are a 5-minute drive from each other. One complex, called Therme St. Kathrein, has large heated pools, and the other, called the Römerbad Thermal Spa, has a diverse world of saunas and pools as well.

Therme St. Kathrein

This spa complex is very large and has recently undergone extensive renovation. The spa has the largest pool area in Carinthia and also the longest water slide in the entire region.

The water area includes relaxation pools at a temperature of 34 degrees with hot water jets for muscle relaxation and rest. In addition, there is a fun pool for children that connects to a large, heated outdoor pool at a temperature of 30 degrees. In this pool is the long slide called Nockberge, which is 86 meters long. The slide operates all year round, even on cold winter days (it is covered and starts and ends inside the building). For the little ones, there is a shallow, heated pool.

If you want to enrich your visit, you can enter the diverse sauna complex, which includes a Finnish sauna, a steam sauna, an aromatic sauna, and more. The saunas are located both inside the building and some outside. Of course, there are comfortable seating areas, quiet rooms, and a place to eat a hot meal throughout the day.

There is a separate section for beauty treatments and massages.

The Römerbad Thermal Spa

This spa focuses mainly on saunas and relaxation. Its impressive Roman-style design and the mountain view from it make it a preferred destination for those who want a few hours of peace and quiet.

The spa building is divided into three floors with 13 saunas with different Roman names – dry saunas, wet saunas, saunas with aromatic oils, and more. There are also several small water pools for refreshment, the most impressive of which is the infinity pool heated to a temperature of 32 degrees, from which there are wonderful views of the entire area.

The areas within this spa are:

  • Romanum (Floor 1): Features saunas, a steam room, and a small pool.
  • Noricum (Floor 2): Sauna rooms with a Finnish sauna and a garnet sauna. There is also a heated jacuzzi.
  • Maximum (Floor 3): Saltwater steam room, infrared sauna, steam sauna, and the infinity pool.

You can read a detailed description of the different saunas here.

Beauty treatments and massages are offered in another area of the spa.
