Archaeological findings in the Bludenz area, near which the Bürser Canyon is located, indicate ancient settlement as far back as the Bronze Age. Later, Celts settled in the area, who were subject to the rule of the Roman Empire when it controlled the entire region. The town’s appearance today is somewhat reminiscent of a typical medieval town, especially in its old center.
Near the town is a most spectacular place – the Bürserschlucht canyon. The canyon was formed over thousands of years as a result of the powerful flow of glacial water that melted at the end of the last ice age. The well-maintained trail passes through the mountain and forest area alongside the rushing river. The canyon has a very wild appearance, and its landscapes are magnificent.
The hike inside the canyon takes about two hours and is 4.5 kilometers long. There is parking at the entrance to the trail for those arriving by car.
