Rosegg Estate (Schloss Rosegg)
Prince Orsini-Rosenberg built Rosegg Estate in 1772 for his Italian mistress, Madame Lucrezia. He designed the estate in an Italian style, and some of its original furniture remains inside.
The second owner of the castle was Peter Ritter von Bohr, who was an advisor to the emperor and also a talented money forger. It was von Bohr who established the zoo that operates to this day. The estate was later sold to the noble Liechtenstein family and remains in their possession today.
Inside the estate building, various art exhibitions, music performances, theater shows, and more are held. A nice café operates on-site for the convenience of visitors.
The Rosegg Estate Zoo
In the state of Carinthia, the Rosegg Estate Zoo is considered the largest among the region’s zoos. The zoo was established in 1830 by the money forger Peter Ritter von Bohr. The zoo has about 400 animals from 35 different species. In addition, the site has a petting zoo and a playground for children.

The Largest Hedge Maze in Austria
A hedge maze was a very common element in English gardens in the 17th and 18th centuries, but Austria also had some beautiful mazes (one of them is at Schönbrunn Palace Gardens).
In 2001, a large hedge maze opened in the area between the manor house and the zoo complex. The maze covers an area of 2400 square meters, and the length of the path inside it is one kilometer. In the center of the maze stands a tower that helps those walking inside navigate through the high plant walls.

Opening Hours:
- Rosegg Estate Café: Early May to the end of September, Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Zoo: End of March to the beginning of November, every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Last admission at 5:00 PM.
- Maze: Early May to the end of September, Monday to Friday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Closed on rainy days.

The Open-Air Museum – World of the Celts
In this museum, you can get a comprehensive glimpse into the ancient world of the Celts. The Celts were the ancient inhabitants of this region of Austria. At this site, near Rosegg Estate, an ancient Celtic burial site was found where members of the upper class were likely buried. The graves found were full of ancient jewelry and weapons.
Among the graves, a unique and ancient system of passages was also found that connected them in a very sophisticated way.
The museum displays the various findings from this archaeological site, especially the wide variety of jewelry found in the graves of Celtic women.
