A trip to Austria is truly an exceptional experience! A place you should see at least once – and you’ll surely want to come back! This wonderful country offers a winning combination of fantastic nature and fun attractions for all ages.

Throughout the country, there are a variety of unique hotels and guesthouses. There are ancient places, incredibly royal ones, or simply those with very creative design and style. We have gathered here the most unique accommodations from all over Austria.

Luxurious and Special Accommodations in Vienna

The city of Vienna, the capital of Austria, is a classic and wonderfully well-kept city, perfect for a short and enjoyable trip. The city has many accommodation options. We have previously compiled the 41 most recommended places to stay in Vienna by travelers, but now we will focus on the city’s most unique hotels:

Hotel Imperial Vienna

A most luxurious 5-star hotel. It will make you feel like royalty with a design reminiscent of the rooms in Vienna’s magnificent palaces. For more information, photos, and reviews.

Hotel Sacher

Hotel Sacher is considered an attraction in itself in Vienna. Not only because of its magnificent design and excellent location, but also thanks to the Sachertorte, which is one of the symbols of Viennese cuisine. For more information, photos, and reviews.

Stay in a luxury caravan (belongs to Hotel Daniel Vienna)

If you’re getting bored of hotel rooms but still want a hotel experience, you can simply sleep in the hotel’s garden inside a luxury caravan. Hotel Daniel Vienna has designed a 16-square-meter caravan in a particularly beautiful way. It even has a bathtub inside (and air conditioning, internet, heating, and more). For more information and photos.

Special Accommodations in the Wachau Valley Area

The Wachau Valley is a unique nature area located near the city of Vienna. It is a world-renowned region of vineyards and fine wine. You can have a pampering vacation just in the Wachau Valley, or simply stop for a night on the way to the Salzburgerland region and Austria’s wonderful Lake District. At the far end of the valley, there is an exceptional hotel:

Hotel Burg Oberranna

A historic hotel in the heart of the Wachau Valley. Located in an ancient castle building about 5 kilometers from the town of Spitz in the heart of the wonderful valley. For more information on the hotel’s website.

Baumhaus (Treehouse)

On the outskirts of Krems (the beginning of the Wachau Valley) and not far from the town of Tulln is a wooden house in a tree. It is a beautiful and well-equipped holiday home that also includes a balcony with a gorgeous view! For more information, photos, and reviews.

In general, if you are coming to Vienna, there are several places near the city where you can stay. You can find several recommendations for accommodation outside of Vienna in a separate article we have prepared.

Unique Accommodations in Burgenland and Lower Austria (Southeast of Vienna)

Hotel & Spa Larimar

A pampering and romantic spa hotel located south of Vienna (about an hour and 40 minutes by car). The hotel building was built and designed according to what is called the “golden ratio” (also known as the golden section or the divine proportion). There are other buildings around the world built according to this proportion, for example: the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount or the Great Pyramid of Giza. Regardless, the hotel is suitable for a high-level relaxing and pampering vacation. For more information, photos, and reviews.

Schlaffass

If you’ve ever wondered how wine feels having to be in a barrel for so long, here’s your chance to find out. A short drive from Baden (and about a 35-minute drive from Vienna by car), you can sleep inside a wooden barrel. For more information, photos, and reviews.

Unique Accommodations in Upper Austria

The state of Upper Austria, in our opinion, does not get enough credit. It is a wonderful nature area with lots of entertainment options and worthy attractions. In fact, some of Austria’s most beautiful attractions are located in Upper Austria.

Not far from the city of Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, is a complex with very strange hotels:

Das Park Hotel

Sleep inside a concrete pipe. A strange hotel, without a doubt. What’s more, you “Pay as you wish” for the “room”. For more information and photos.

IKUNA – Stay in Native American Style

A particularly experiential place for children. The Ikuna resort includes several beautiful and well-equipped tipi tents (made of wood) for a fun stay. The place also has many outdoor activities, especially for children. For more information, photos, and reviews.

Holiday apartments in the treetops

If you want to take your trip to the next level, you can stay here in one of a variety of pampering apartments located at a height of 10 meters above the ground. The place has several apartments connected by wooden bridges, so even if you come as a group, everyone can enjoy the experience together. For more information and photos.

Accommodation in the Hundertwasser Design in Styria

The state of Styria is located in the heart of Austria. An interesting place with several picturesque towns, mountainous scenery, and fine wine. One of the places that attracts many visitors to Styria is actually a small spa hotel. A quick glance at the picture makes it easy to understand why.

Rogner Bad Blumau

The picturesque structure of the hotel combined with the pampering spa complex and the excellent food make this hotel one of the most popular in eastern Austria. Especially suitable for a quality and pampering couple’s vacation. For more information, photos, and reviews.

Pampering, Luxurious, and Special Accommodations in the Salzburgerland Region

The Salzburgerland region is the highlight for many travelers in Austria. An endless amount of attractions and nature, and very reasonable driving distances, make it a very attractive place for a first trip to Austria. In the city of Salzburg, the capital of the region, as well as near the impressive lakes, you can find exceptional hotels:

Hotel Schloss Mönchstein

A luxurious and pampering 5-star superior hotel, located on the top of Mönchsberg mountain, offering its visitors a most spectacular view of the city of Salzburg. In addition to all this goodness, it also has a Michelin star and an infinity pool. For more information, photos, and reviews.
