In the southern part of the city of Salzburg lies Hellbrunn Palace. This is a Baroque-style palace built in 1613 for Archbishop Markus Sittikus. The palace was intended to serve as the archbishop’s day residence, but not for living. The name of the palace is Hellbrunn – the clear spring (Schloss Hellbrunn). You can visit inside the palace to see its impressive rooms and visit the Folklore Museum within it.
In fact, the main attraction of the palace is actually in the gardens that surround it. In the palace grounds, there are various fountains that seem as if they have come to life. The trick fountains are an extraordinary show designed to entertain visitors to the palace for 400 years. A visit to the fountains is most suitable on a hot summer day!
In addition to the fountains, there are extensive gardens belonging to the palace. There are beautiful walking paths, a playground area for children, and the Salzburg City Zoo is also located on part of the palace garden grounds. In winter, a beautifully decorated Christmas market is held here.
