In Vienna, there is a wonderful complex where the city’s Botanical Gardens are located. The Botanical Gardens were established back in the 18th century by order of Empress Maria Theresa and were used for research and the cultivation of rare plants from all over the world. The Institute of Botany was established at the beginning of the 20th century and operated within the gardens.
During World War II, the gardens and greenhouses were bombed and severely damaged. After the war, it took a long time to rebuild them.
Today, you can see over 12,000 species of plants from 6 different continents in the garden complex. A visit throughout the garden is free for everyone, and you can even enter the tropical plant greenhouse.
