Recommended Attractions in the Seventh District
1. Museumsquartier (MQ)
The Museumsquartier is one of the central complexes in Vienna for modern art. The complex includes popular museums such as the Mumok Museum of modern art, the Leopold Museum, and the Zoom Children’s Museum. Especially on summer days, the plaza between the museums becomes bustling with life. In the Museumsquartier plaza, you can enjoy dance, music, and theater performances, art installations, photography and architecture exhibits, lectures, children’s activities, and more. Surrounding the museums are a variety of cafes and restaurants. It’s a nice place to walk around, even if you don’t plan on entering the museums or sitting in the restaurants. You can read our detailed article for more information on all the museums and activities in the MuseumsQuartier.

2. Volkstheater (People’s Theatre)
The Volkstheater of Vienna is located on the street parallel to the Ringstrasse, near the Museumsquartier and the Mariahilfer Strasse shopping street. It can be reached with a short walk from the Hofburg Palace or the Parliament building. The square where the theater is located is named Arthur-Schnitzler-Platz.
Although this theater was secondary to the Habsburg’s court theater (Burgtheater), today it also plays an important role in Vienna’s world of art and culture. The theater building is ancient and impressively beautiful, and it hosts many important events for the city, such as the TEDxVienna event. The theater hall includes 832 seats, making it one of the largest theaters in German-speaking countries. Read more up-to-date information about the Volkstheater.
